Set your heart free

Life can wear us down. It can make us hard-shelled, loud, quiet, or withdrawn. Everything we've been through - our experiences, relationships, even past hurts - shapes who we are.  For me, all of this hardened my heart.  I shut people out, couldn't deal with my feelings, and lost sight of myself.  I let the past define me and it kept me far from God.

Becoming a follower of Christ meant finding the truth.  I learned I wasn't a prisoner of my past - people, events, nothing could hold me captive.  There was hope for renewal, because God's promises are true.  This verse from Ezekiel always speaks to me:

"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." (Ezekiel 36:26)

This is powerful! In this prophecy, God is disappointed with the people's choices.  He calls their rebellion a "heart of stone" - cold, unfeeling, and unwilling to change. But even in judgement, God offers a promise: a "heart of flesh." This heart is open to God and desires to live righteously.  Our hardened hearts can become soft towards God's love. Our rigid ways can become open to understanding His love and grace through Christ.

How can we set our hearts free?

  • God's word is the key. The Bible offers guidance, comfort, and the power to transform our lives. By immersing ourselves in scripture, we can discover God's will, find the strength to overcome challenges, and renew our minds.
  • Be free from fear. Fear can hold us captive and prevent us from experiencing God's love. Through faith and trust in God, we can break free from fear and embrace a life filled with peace and purpose.
  • Let's set lost hearts free. Just as God offers us a new heart, we can share this message of hope with others. By sharing our stories and God's word, we can help others find freedom and experience the transformative power of Christ.

Remember, whatever has a hold on your heart is your master.  Take some time to reflect: what has a hold on you? What is stopping you from living a life fully surrendered to God's will?  Let this be the year you break free!  Declare with confidence: Nothing will have a hold on me in 2024!

The Tangled Web We Weave

Let's face it, we've all lied. Big lies, little lies, to save face, to protect someone, a million justifications. It starts innocently enough, but then... you know the feeling – the web of lies grows, each one needing another to hold the story together. It's exhausting! For me, lying became a bad habit. I'd lie to protect my reputation, create a certain image, or avoid consequences. But those justifications wore thin. The lies, big and small, chipped away at the trust in my relationships. Friendships ended, loved ones doubted me, and a heavy overthinking settled in. The truth is, the fear of being vulnerable and humble caused way more stress than any temporary comfort the lie offered. Breaking Free from the Father of Lies The turning point for me came from a powerful scripture in John 8:42-47.  Jesus exposes the source of lies: the devil, the "father of lies." Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I have come here from God. ...
